IT'S PARADE TIME AGAIN!

The annual Halloween Parade is turning 5! Zombie Walk OKC has been there from the beginning, and WE'RE GOING BIG THIS YEAR! We need all available zombies to come join our entry to make this the largest, scariest undead swarm to ever lurch through Oklahoma's streets.

It is a free event! Grab your friends, throw on some gore and makeup, and come join the fun.

RULES  *IMPORTANT*

The usual rules apply...."You may be dead, but don't be a jerk." Plus there are some parade specific ones:

1. You MUST be 18+ to walk in the parade. (Minors are encouraged to go be spectators)
2. No weapons or simulated weapons.
3. No throwing items to the crowd. (We will have a group of volunteers HANDING candy to the kids though)

ABOUT THE PARADE

The Gazette's Annual Halloween Parade normally features close to 100 entries and boasts crowds of 50000+ spectators. It's one of the most exciting celebrations of art and creativity in the region.

This will be the parade's 5th year. Zombie Walk OKC has had an entry in it every year, and continues to grow each time. Last year, we had about 200 zombies and won our second trophy. This year we're shooting for an even larger turn out.

NEW FOR THIS YEAR

1. The route has changed...sort of...It's the same route as the previous few years, but going the other direction.

2. We'll have a shiny new 9ft wide banner at the front of our group with a 3ft brain on the back for us to follow.

3. There isn't a flaming lips skeleton army this year, which leads to...

4. We've teamed up with TheSpyFM.com (this year's big headlining entry) to work towards forming a mega swarm of zombies in the grand finale position formerly held by the skeletons.

The fine folks at SoonerCon have invited the undead to come out and play! There will be a Zombie Walk around the hotel and downtown in the afternoon and in the evening they're hosting a Zombie Prom dance party. There's also rumor of someone making a short film at the convention who needs shots of zombie hordes roaming around.

They've been kind enough to offer a special discount price for zombies who come for the walk and want to stay for the rest of the day.

SoonerCon is OKC's premiere convention for fans of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and all the other fun genres. You don't want to miss this.

We're estimating that 170-200 zombies joined us this year, and Zombie Walk OKC won 3rd place out of around 70 entries! We are so proud of everyone who came out!

Last year we had 125 zombies join our entry and won the Fright Stuff Award for being the scariest entry in the parade.  This year we're looking for even more zombies!

ABOUT THE PARADE:

The Ghouls Gone Wild Parade is an annual Halloween themed celebration of creativity that started in 2007 and is organized by the Oklahoma Gazette. In 2009, they had over 80 parade entries and a crowd estimate of around 55,000 people!

The parade covers a 1 mile route through downtown Oklahoma City (see maps below) and ends in an area where you'll find food and drink vendors.

Zombie Walk OKC has had an entry in every parade and gets bigger and better each year!

RULES OF THE PARADE:

  • 18+ TO WALK IN THE PARADE!
    However, we do encourage All Ages to come out and watch the parade as spectators. Everyone always has a good time.
  • NO WEAPONS OR ANYTHING RESEMBLING WEAPONS!
  • NO THROWING CANDY OR GIFTS AT THE AUDIENCE!
    However, you can walk over and hand items to members of the crowd. It's a safety thing.

    We will have a few candy bags if anyone wants to volunteer to hand out candy.

  • WE MUST STAY AT LEAST 20 FEET AWAY FROM THE ENTRIES IN FRONT OF AND BEHIND US !
  • TRY NOT TO GET TOO FAR AHEAD OF OR BEHIND THE BULK OF OUR GROUP!
    Yes everyone will be moving at different speeds, but we want to try to stay in a big scary swarm instead getting all strung out

MAPS & PARKING:

THE MEETING SPOT MAP HAS BEEN ADDED BELOW!

Make sure to allow yourself plenty of extra time for finding a place to park and  getting to the meeting spot. There's parking scattered all along the parade route. We usually recomend parking towards the end of the route and walking up to the starting area so you don't have to walk back to the starting area AFTER the parade.

Friday, June 4, 2010! The folks at SoonerCon (long-running science fiction & fantasy convention) have been kind enough to invite us to have a walk as part of their opening night celebrations. Zombies joining us for the walk will get a FREE day pass for Friday to join the night's other festivities. There's also a good chance of news cameras being around during the walk.

In the News

Somehow some "blood" on a sidewalk caused us to be in the news two days in a row. The publicity is nice, but it must be a REALLY slow news week if some spilled corn syrup and chocolate sauce makes the cut twice. This is probably the only time you'll ever see sundae toppings in the news.
